MINI design tour - August 2020

MINI

Each month, MINI and Maison&Objet share their hand-picked selection of three exciting design events that await you on and offline. In July, as borders are reopening and we’re beginning to travel again, the Design Tour invites us to explore new venues and broaden our horizons. An English pub in Paris over which interior designer Laura Gonzalez has waved her magic wand, a hotel on the banks of Lake Zürich that’s received the Philippe Stark treatment, and inspired insights on co-living from MINI Living’s creative lead & project manager Oke Hauser, all accompany this welcome return to a life of liberty.

Re-thinking urban cohabitation by Oke Hauser

When MINI’s iconic car burst onto the market back in 1959 it was branded a game-changer, and the firm continues to pursue its trailblazing approach today by exploring urban lifestyles. The fruit of that work is being unveiled in Shanghai with the opening of a co-living and co-working space directly connected to the city. Oke Hauser, creative lead & project manager at MINI Living, chats with Ideat magazine about the firm’s innovative and committed approach.

The pub, but not as you know it, by Laura Gonzalez

The Sir Winston in Paris may well have retained its oh-so British name, but this old aristocratic-sounding pub has been cleverly nudged into the new Millennium by interior designer Laura Gonzalez. The 2019 Maison&Objet Designer of the Year has added a splash of colour to the terrace, sparked up the interior with florals and given the bar her own unique injection of style.

Paradise by Philippe Starck

In the words of Philippe Starck, “La Réserve Eden au Lac Zürich is like rock and roll dancing with the Queen of England”. The activity would doubtlessly leave the respectable sovereign all shook up, and that’s exactly what’s happened to the legendary Eden au Lac de Zürich hotel, which was taken over by Michel Reybier’s La Réserve hospitality group a few years ago. As a man with a passion for yacht design, Starck makes full use of the building’s architectural qualities and imbues the space with a new poetic vibe - that of an imaginary yacht club.
