Färg & Blanche, a top-class team

Having initially been placed in the spotlight by MAISON&OBJET back in 2016, this year the Swedish design studio will feature at the MAISON&OBJET x RISING TALENT AWARDS exhibition during Milan Design Week.

The two-man team, consisting of Swedish designer Fredrik Färg and his Franco-Swedish design partner Emma Marga Blanche, have developed a style that places tailoring and stitching resolutely centre stage. The organic and sensual curves that result from their experimentation with materials, at times pushed to the extreme, have formed their signature style since first founding their studio back in 2010. Their vision of design challenges the notions of comfort, the relationship between hard and soft, exploring industrial manufacturing techniques to combine materials as diverse as metal, wood, leather and felt.

“Heading to France for MAISON&OBJET in 2016 really kick-started our international career”

Working out of their studio in the Södermalm district of Stockholm, the duo develop proprietary collections of one-off or limited edition furnishings and lights, as well as sculptural pieces for public spaces, collaborating with numerous industrial furniture manufacturers such as Swedish firm Gärsnäs, who helped propel their names into the spotlight in 2013 on producing their easy chair, Emma. Johanson Design, BD Barcelona Design, Petite Friture, Bolon and Nodus all already employ their talent, with Bernhardt Design soon to be added to that list. “Being placed in the spotlight at the MAISON&OBJET trade fair in France in 2016 helped pave the way for embarking on collaborations with firms from overseas. As young designers, we were unbelievably lucky to have been given the opportunity to showcase our work to such a wide audience at that point in our career”, explains Fredrik. Their “Succession” tableware range, developed in 2016 in France by Petite Friture in partnership with porcelain manufacturer Revol, left a lasting impression in more ways than one, transposing their experimental cord-restrained felt forms to porcelain. And since then, the projects have just kept on coming. The most recent? “The Baker’s House” in Stockholm last February, an exquisite exhibition showcasing their very latest designs in Emma’s great-great-grandfather’s townhouse, which dates back to 1889. This family of lights and furnishings will be making its way to Rossana Orlandi’s Milanese gallery for the MAISON&OBJET x RISING TALENT AWARDS as part of Design Week. And there’s undoubtedly plenty more to come!
