It’s the hippest borough in New York and a place that Rosie Li, one of September 2019’s six American Rising Talents, knows like the back of her hand.
Since 2011 so about 8 years and going strong.
If you’re in town for First Saturdays at Brooklyn Museum, admission is free and the museum is open late, plus there’s usually a live band. It’s such a diverse crowd– everyone comes out so it makes for really good people-watching too!
BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music). It’s a performance space and cinema and I come out energized after seeing a show there.
And Prospect Park is close to my heart (and my apartment!) I’m always there walking my dog :) It was designed by Olmsted and doesn’t feel like it’s perfect or manicured – walk the trails and get lost in nature.
Brooklyn is so diverse, it’s hard choose just one! Frankie’s 457 Sputino in Carroll Gardens is a must. Coney Island is very Brooklyn: hit the boardwalk and grab a hotdog from Nathan’s. Or hike up to Greenpoint and go to Peter Pan donuts – super old-school, super delicious.
Williamsburg’s still got it, tons of cute boutiques and thrift stores there.
Not exactly a secret but: my studio at 36 Waverly Ave.! Come visit and I’ll take you to my favourite neighbourhood spots.
If you’re posh, stay in Brooklyn Heights. If you’re an artist go to Bushwick. Avoid Williamsburg… you’ll be trapped by the L train.
If you can find it here, you can find it anywhere. Brooklyn designers are so enterprising, our work is available all around the globe.

How to spot new talent?
