One of 2019’s Rising Talents, this young American designer has chosen the City of Angels as the place to let his creative imagination run wild. An inspiring choice.

How long have you been living in Los Angeles?

I am fairly new to Los Angeles, I have lived here for a little over a year.

Where would you say is the ultimate spot to get a real feel for the city?

The Perch Restaurant. It has a rooftop bar with a great view of the city. If you have never been to LA before, I would also recommend Griffith Observatory. It has expansive views of the city and a view of the Hollywood sign.

Which places do you find most culturally inspiring?

There are so many great museums in LA, like the Getty, The Broad,
MOCA, and LACMA. My favorite museum though is Hauser & Wirth located in the Arts District.

Which restaurant or café would you say best captures LA’s vibe?

The first one that comes to mind is Grand Central Market, which is a food market that brings together different cuisines and cultures in DTLA.
However, each neighborhood in LA has great food and restaurants. I live in Koreatown and love going out with friends to get Korean BBQ.

Which neighbourhood instantly springs to mind when we say “Shopping in LA”?

West Hollywood on Fairfax and Melrose or Dover Street Market in DTLA. Also, the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena is a great place to find some unique crafts, clothes, and antiques.

Do you have any secret addresses you’d care to share?

Lock & Key is a great neighborhood bar that I enjoy grabbing a drink at in Koreatown. Also, this location might not really be a secret, but Casa Perfect is a residential gallery space located in Beverly Hills housed in the former estate of Elvis Presley. The space showcases a great selection of furniture and lighting pieces by an amazing roster of internationally renowned artists and designers.

Where is the best place to stay for anyone keen to explore the city?

If you like being in the city the LINE Hotel in Koreatown or The Standard in DTLA is great. If you’re more of a beach person and it is your first time visiting LA, I would recommend Hotel Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica.

Which design piece can only be picked up in LA?
This is more of a design experience, but a visit to the Eames House in the Pacific Palisades and the Case Study houses in the LA area.
