The curators of the upcoming exhibition, At Home, at the Biennale de Saint-Etienne analyze how our domestic spaces are being radically redefined. In a time of lockdowns and restrictions, our living environments have rarely been more vital. With our ever-evolving lifestyles come changes in our private habitats that extend beyond their traditional role as shelters. How do they help define our identities? How do they enhance our well-being? Where does the boundary lie between the public and personal realms? Discover how the design of our homes will shape our lives of the future.

Jana Scholze
Curator of the exhibition "At Home: Panorama of our Domestic Lives"
Jana Scholze is a design curator. She is Associate Professor at the Kingston School of Art in London heading the MA Curating Contemporary Design in collaboration with the Design Museum. Her transdisciplinary research covers questions around formats of interaction and contemporary design practice engaging with society, technology and the environment. She is a Fellow at the Victoria and Albert Museum where she has been previously the Curator of Contemporary and Modern Furniture and Product Design working on acquisitions and exhibitions, such as 'What is Luxury?’ (2015). She is a member of the AHRC’ Peer Review College, and a member of the board of the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg and the Stanley Picker Gallery in London. She is one of the initiators of The Design Film Festival (2020) and co-curates an exhibition about domesticity for the XII International Design Biennial Saint-Etienne in 2021.
Catharine Rossi
Curator of the exhibition "At Home: Panorama of our Domestic Lives"
Dr Catharine Rossi is a design historian at Kingston School of Art, London. She is an academic, educator, writer, curator, speaker and researcher on design past and present. Her interests include contemporary design, post-war Italian design and architecture, craft, and the design history of nightclubs. In 2015, she published Designing Craft in Italy: from Postwar to Postmodernism (MUP) and is the co-editor with Alex Coles of the forthcoming book Post-Craft (Sternberg Press, 2022). In 2014 she curated Space Electronic: Then and Now for the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale and in 2018 co-curated Night Fever: Designing Club Culture 1960 to Today, a touring exhibition which opened at Vitra Design Museum and which is currently at V&A Dundee (Scotland). She is currently co-curating AT HOME: Panorama of our Domestic Lives for the International Design Biennale Saint-Étienne 2022.
Ian Phillips
Journalist & Author
In a career stretching over near 30 years, the English-born, Paris-based journalist Ian Phillips has interviewed the likes of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Yves Saint Laurent and Balthus. Now specialized in design, he is the author of four books on interiors edited by Taschen and a former editor-at-large for AD Germany. He has also participated as a moderator at the TEFAF Maastricht fair. Today, he freelances for a wide range of publications, including AD USA, Departures, 1stdibs and Vogue Living Australia, and recently penned the texts for a new book on the Bisazza art foundation, which will be released by Rizzoli in late September.
