Each month, MINI and Maison&Objet share their hand-picked selection of three exciting design events that await you on and offline. This December, the focus is on reinventing our cities with the winners of the FAIRE Paris contest; meeting the people in the driving seat of a brand-new Portuguese lifestyle; and spreading our travel wings with a captivating look at the venues currently inspiring architects, designers and stylists.
354 entries, 48 finalists, 16 winners. The fourth edition of FAIRE garnered unprecedented interest, but the jury appointed by the project accelerator for innovative urban and architectural initiatives eventually picked out 16 worthy winners that offer a comprehensive snapshot of the many challenges our cities currently face, including climate, housing, solidarity, tax deductions on small investment properties, children’s role in cities, upcycling, new materials, energy, health and diversity. The platform, launched by Le Pavillon de l’Arsenal and partnered by MINI, once again turns the spotlight on how beneficial multidisciplinary approaches can be when experimenting with new ways of designing or building our cities.

Designers, architects and creatives have a very broad view not only of the nature of design but also of their own creativity. Their quest for knowledge, inspiration and resources is relentless and all-consuming. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they were to share their discoveries with us? That is precisely the idea underpinning Travel by design, a coffee table book published by Assouline that features travel photos from over 150 American architects and designers, including Rafael de Cárdenas, Jamie Drake and Jiun Ho. The 350 images of over 100 different places scattered across 60 countries magically (re)open our travel horizons and fuel our imaginations.
