Historical prestige meets contemporary vision.
This year there are two major institutions, two exceptional presences at Paris Design Week: the Manufacture de Sèvres and the Mobilier national (the successor to the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne). Although part of French national heritage, they are both exhibiting – and with such style – contemporary creations. The Mobilier national has been supporting the arts and crafts since the 17th century and it therefore brings a keen eye for artistic excellence to bear on the subjects of its two new exhibitions: “Métal et Design” on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower from 3-8 September and “Le mobilier du XXIe siècle – La jeune création réinvente la table du conseil des ministers” at the Galerie des Gobelins from 3-12 September. At the Galerie de Sèvres in the heart of historic Paris, the Manufacture’s exhibition “L’objet, l’artiste et le designer” is also split into two parts: the ground floor of the gallery is given over to designers and the 1st floor brings together iconic creations produced at Sèvres and less well-known works by artists and designers who approached Sèvres (some quite recently).
