Don’t say “Le Off”, say “Paris Design Week Factory”. Next September, a new springboard for talented young designers will see the light of day.
Discovering, promoting and encouraging talent - whether final year students, graduates or designers with a few years’ experience - has always been the leitmotif of Paris Design Week and Maison&Objet. Paris is a springboard to an international career and, at the end of the day, Paris Design Week provides an inspirational portrait of emerging creative movements. Previously called “Le Off”, this show of work by talented young designers takes on a whole new dimension and becomes Paris Design Week Factory, a talent-producing factory that will blossom this year in three gorgeous loft galleries in the heart of the Marais district. Who knows, one day perhaps one of these new names will be voted Designer of the Year.
Galerie Joseph Froissart: the prizewinners.
Work by designers from this year’s Rising Talent Awards will be on show, which in September give pride of place to Africa. This is this perfect one-stop event to get a comprehensive overview of the young African design scene, all the more so as the Parisian galleries that specialise in the field have been invited to exhibit selected works.
Galerie Joseph 116 Turenne: a first glance.
French and international design schools will be presenting a selection of work by their graduates, the idea being to illustrate the essence and specific character of their courses. The exhibition is also open to former students who have been working in the field for less than 7 years - so start applying now! The gallery will also be hosting a series of talks by designers and architects produced by Chantal Hamaide. These live conferences will be recorded by a “Mini Living” studio as part of a partnership with Mini and they will be made available as podcasts.
Espace Commines: the age of reason.
These designers featured in past Rising Talent Awards selections, but where are they today and what have they become? American, French, British, Italian and Chinese designers return to Paris to talk about their work. They were promised a glorious future - now we can take a look at another stage in their career: maturity.
